“The Dining Room” is a little gem of a restaurant set in the historic market town of Ashbourne.
Run hands on by husband & wife team Pete & Laura they produce award winning food in their intimate restaurant.
With only 6 tables and inclusion in the hardens, aa, michelin & which restaurant guides the dining room needs to be booked well in advance.
Using the local larder to great effect (most produce comes from within 6 miles) the compact menu is well chosen and superbly executed with everthing from the bread to the ice cream being made on the premises.
Make the best of your visit to the dining room by dining from a 7-10 course tasting menu. Smaller courses showcasing the best produce available on that day gives you a multitude of wonderful tastes and textures. All we need to know is if you have any dietary requirements. The tasting menu has been around for some time now and slowly but surely is coming to forefront of dining style.
The style is designed to give the diner a meal of many smaller dishes offering a multitude of textures and tastes.
This type of menu has a different effect on the brain and taste buds with there being more first tastes which are the usually most exciting. We have experienced and enjoyed tasting menus at some of the worlds best restaurants, notably the french laundry in the napa valley, california. We now offer a "tasting menu" which is designed to use the best seasonal british produce available.
The dining room is already an ambassador for local produce and with only 6 tables and an existing seasonal menu, all you need to do is set a date, give us a call and book your experience in Ashbourne’s finest restaurant!

THE OLD VICARAGE AT RIDGEWAY VILLAGE
SHEFFIELD’S ONLY MICHELIN-STARRED RESTAURANT
Owned by TV chef and author Tessa Bramley, this internationally-renowned restaurant serving innovative modern menus is part of the family home; an early Victorian vicarage set in acres of country garden, its gently rolling lawns and copses blending with the surrounding countryside of the Moss Valley conservation area in North East Derbyshire.
Set out in 1846 by the Rev. Alexander Crawford-Bromehead, the gardens incorporate many fine specimens, including Cedars of Lebanon and Yew - and still alive is a magnificent 20ft. bay tree originally planted as a seedling by the front door when the house was first built. Like all true country gardens, this fusion of flora not only delights the eye, it also adds to the larder. Wild mushrooms such as wood blewitts, oyster mushrooms, shaggy inkcaps and puffballs all grow in the copse, whilst the kitchen garden provides wonderful soft fruits, numerous and varied salad leaves and a profusion of herbs to add another dimension to Tessa’s exciting cooking.
Sweet woodruff is made into a fragrant ice cream to serve with summer peach melba and raspberries from the garden. Elderflowers are added to gooseberries to make fools and sorbets; crab apple and thyme flower jelly is made to serve with the winter game; sweet cicely and rhubarb is made into tarts and soufflés. Five varieties of thyme, rosemary, golden marjoram, anise hyssop and lemon balm fill the air with fragrance and the orchard yields greengages, plums, apples, blackberries and pears in abundance. Much of the produce used from the local farms is organic and the eggs are both free range and organic – and you can tell ! This is a kitchen at one with the seasons, where the produce inspires the dishes. This is proper food, cooked properly and with discretion, yet with the flair that befits a restaurant which moves with the times !
In the kitchen, Tessa and Nathan regularly and consistently win accolades for their cooking from all the major food guides. This is the place for your special celebration where dining is the highlight of the evening and where everyone takes a delight in providing that meal to remember; from exciting canapés with your aperitif, through a celebration of Modern British cooking, to hand-made chocolates and petits fours. The charm and elegance of the “front of house” provides a relaxing backdrop for the evening where the skill is in the detail – fine Persian rugs, lush fabrics, original mouldings create a beautiful blend of family home and fine restaurant so that it’s difficult to see where the edges fuse.
The main dining room, with its golden oak floor, its specially commissioned watercolours and the warm honey tones of its décor, is especially popular with guests for special occasion dining. Others adore the riot of jasmine and passionflowers in the Victorian conservatory, with its drapes and French windows leading onto the terrace and surrounding gardens.
The Old Vicarage is also licensed to hold civil wedding ceremonies – the perfect country setting for the most important day of your lives.
Festival Events:
For the festival we will be offering a fine wine dinner event on Friday 25th May starting with a reception at 7.30pm.
